OUR OBJECTIVE: TO IMPROVE THE DIAGNOSIS OF BREAST CANCER WITH A NEW AND SAFE IMAGING MODALITY AT THE SERVICE OF WOMEN’S HEALTH
Wavelia is a Microwave Breast Imaging scanner intended for the detection and characterization of breast pathologies.
An international network of clinical partners is participating to the development of this safe imaging modality designed as an alternative or complementary modality to conventional breast imaging.
Unlike X-ray mammography, this non-ionizing technology may allow for regular scan of the breast, as often as needed for clinical follow-up of pre-diagnosed pathologies, or for the preventive control of women with breast cancer family history. In addition, there is no compression of the breast during the examination for the comfort of the patient.
Wavelia by MVG
The rising prevalence of breast cancer around the world makes it a globally recognized health problem and motivates the development of innovative and efficient breast imaging systems to support prevention and diagnosis.
MVG’s research and innovation in advanced multi-probe measurement technology have enabled the development of WAVELIA. With its industrial experience, MVG wishes to put this new safe breast imaging modality at the service of women’s health to improve the diagnosis and management of breast cancer.
Clinical applications: Potential for added-value from Wavelia
-
Screening
Combination with mammography screening to reduce the false negative rate:
- Detectability of cancer types which are not visible on mammogram (e.g. Invasive Lobular Carcinomas)
- Screening tool for young women with dense breasts and/or high risk for breast cancer. -
Diagnosis
Discrimination between malignant and benign breast lesions to reduce the number of unnecessary biopsies.
-
Monitoring
Monitor the size evolution of the tumour at regular intervals to support patient-specific treatment planning.
